Breif:
Curtin Maritime was contracted by San Diego based Eclipse Group in the salvage of a Boeing 737-200 from approximately 400 ft of water off the south of Oahu. The cargo freighter crash landed 2 miles off the coast of Ewa Beach with no fatalities.
The Shirley C crew towed the DB Salta Verde 2500 miles to Barbers Pt. Harbor which would become the base of operations for the team. Eclipse’s Bold Horizon had already begun recovery of the smaller debris, and it’s work class ROV was used to rig the two main fuselage sections to be salvaged by the DB Salta Verde.
The two main fuselage pieces were successfully rigged into, winched up through the water column, transferred to the crane, and placed on deck by our team.
The Curtin crew assisted with transfer of these two sections as well as other aircraft components gathered from the debris field to dockside where NTSB investigators took receipt of items for comprehensive examination.
