About DB Catalina

Capable of 100% electric operation with connection to a shore-power source, providing a true ZE dredge platform.

DB Catalinas advanced hybrid system integrates state-of-the-art supercapacitors, offering a safer and more energy-efficient alternative to traditional battery storage for high-demand dredging operations. These supercapacitors rapidly harness energy during bucket lowering and release it during hoisting, while an EPA Tier 4-rated generator provides supplemental power. Combined with a fully automated dredging system, DB Catalina delivers unmatched precision, efficiency, and environmental performance. With shore-power connectivity, it operates fully electric when tethered—setting a new benchmark for sustainable, zero-emissions clamshell dredging.

Safety. Efficiency. Integrity.

Hybrid Tier 4 Power Plant

Highest capacity, and lowest carbon footprint clamshell dredge built in America.

The hybrid system is engineered to maximize energy efficiency throughout the dredging cycle. It stores regenerative energy during bucket lowering and deceleration, then discharges that stored power to the hoist motors, significantly reducing generator load and fuel consumption. This dynamic energy exchange, enabled by high-efficiency supercapacitors, ensures smoother operations, faster cycle times, and exponentially lower emissions compared to conventional dredge power plants.

DB Catalina

DB Catalina sets a new benchmark for clamshell dredging by combining advanced hybrid technology, automation, and environmental performance into a single, high-output platform:

• A state-of-the-art hybrid system using high-efficiency supercapacitors that capture regenerative energy during bucket lowering and deceleration, then discharge it to the hoist motors—significantly reducing generator load, fuel consumption, and emissions, with an EPA Tier 4 generator providing supplemental power

• Fully automated dredging for unmatched precision, smoother operations, and faster cycle times

• Shore-power connectivity enabling fully electric, zero-emissions operation when tethered

• A newly engineered suite of five environmentally friendly clamshell buckets designed to reduce turbidity and eliminate the need for blasting or cutterhead dredging

• Bucket capacities ranging from 20 yd³ (130 tons) to the massive 104 yd³ Cable Arm—the largest clamshell dredge bucket in the Western Hemisphere—paired with a 55-ton mechanical chisel for hard material pre-treatment. Together, these systems allow DB Catalina to dig deeper, cleaner, and faster across all soil types, establishing the most advanced, highest-capacity, and most environmentally sustainable clamshell dredge in the U.S. market.
