In 2015, Curtin Maritime successfully completed its first ‘ground up’ vessel fabrication build, the Bernardine C. Constructed at the company’s shipyard in the Port of Long Beach, CA, this Tier III-compliant tugboat, affectionately nicknamed Bernie, boasts individually steerable Kort nozzles and a custom winch arrangement comprising of three Pullmaster hydraulic winches. Designed and built entirely in-house, this tug was conceptualized by Curtin engineers and crafted by the company’s shipyard crew. It immediately went into service, playing a crucial role in dredging Huntington Beach Harbor as the rig tender for the DB Ben Weston. The Bernardine’s unique design and layout make it invaluable across various workboat applications, including rig tender, anchor handler, and assist boat. Additionally, its draft allows it to access harbors that are often inaccessible to most tugs.
