Jetty Repair – Seal Beach, Ca.
Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station.
• Stone quarried from Catalina Island
• Jetty badly damaged by storms in 2014
• Teamed up with Connolly Pacific Company to do the repairs
The Jetty at the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station was badly damaged by the severe storms out of the south back in 2014. Rock removal and resetting and addition of new A-Rock was required to meet the design. Some of the rock specified was greater than 25 tons, a tall order for the DB Salta Verde to place on the outer edge. For this reason, Curtin Maritime subcontracted Connolly Pacific to complete the needed outside repairs. The DB Long Beach was used by Connolly to place the largest stone on the seaward side. Roughly 26,000 tons of stone was placed over the course of the project. Curtin Maritime received a high mark on the USACE evaluation of the project.
